Animal Crimes in Austin, TX.
Buddy's Story

Buddy was a tiny little pomeranian brought to Town Lake Animal Center (TLAC) by the Austin Police. He had been chained in the rain, covered with paint, with no food or water and his skin was crusted with scabs. He could hardly walk because his toenails we too long. At the pound, he sat in a cage, waiting and waiting for Detective Lamb, the only animal abuse officer in Austin, TX, to take a look at him so he could be released to our rescue group for medical care.

We tried repeatedly to save him for ten days but Detective Lamb never bothered to sign a release. Sadly, Buddy just lay there, still covered with toxic goop while his skin festered and infections worsened. Then pneumonia set in.

By the weeks end, we were desperate. The pound employee left in charge, Dr. Kim Barry, told us she did not know the process for releasing Buddy. No one could do anything without the invisible Detective Lamb. So, we wrote to the city council and, remarkably, the next day Dorinda Pulliam, who runs the TLAC, called to say we could come get little Buddy. She also informed us that we should have called her at home, on her cell phone, instead of writing to the City Council!

After 10 days of neglect, Buddy was washed by his rescuer. By then, his skin was falling off in clumps. His rescuer filed a complaint against Detective Lamb at the office of the Police Monitor, and was interviewed for 2 hours about the many cruelty cases that come into the pound that are sent back to their abusive homes with no charges brought against them. Detective Lamb is not enforcing the cruelty laws, which violates the policeman's sworn oath to uphold the law!

INTERNAL AFFAIRS HAS NOT FOLLOWED UP ON THESE AND OTHER CHARGES as of 06/17/04. (Complaint was filed 12/03).
